Custom Heirloom Wedding Garter Set for La Gartier Bride Marisa McLaren

Three weeks ago I had the pleasure of receiving a phone call from a woman named Jill McLaren who lives in Red Wing, Minnesota. Before I tell you anything else about this woman, let me say that Jill McLaren is someone who truly LOVES her daughter. Throughout our conversation that day, Jill told me all about her daughter Marisa McLaren. She told me that her favorite color was purple and had been purple from the time she was in the womb. She told me that Marisa was extremely beautiful and loved long distance running. She told me Marisa was slightly girly but had a tomboy streak. I was instantly touched by the fact that I was being allowed into such a special part of both Jill's and Marisa's life. Jill told me that she still had the veil from her wedding in 1980 and wanted to know if I could create a garter for her daughter using the tulle from the veil. I accepted the challenge and within one week I had the gorgeous veil here in my studio. (see pictures below). Jill wanted a very full, tulle-based garter for Marisa with sparkling embellishments, something purple bring in Marisa's favorite color, and something blue to take care of the "something blue" tradition. Below is a picture of Marisa's final heirloom garter. I think this garter turned out stunning. It truly one-of-a-kind and has a TON of Marisa's personality in it. I feel very honored and grateful when I look at this garter. It is touching to me that Jill McLaren trusted me to cut up her treasured veil from 1980-- an accessory that she walked down the aisle while wearing---and create such a meaningful peice for her daughter. In all honesty, it was a blast.

La Gartier Bride Marisa Kay McLaren's Heirloom Wedding Garter-made from her mother's wedding veil. This garter has a center purple brooch to bring in Marisa's liftime-long favorite color with sapphire blue swarovski crystal rhinestones to bring in Marisa's "something blue"....and feathers to help the garter match some of Marisa's other feather-based wedding accessories.

Modern Couture Tulle Wedding Garter Set

Ok, so come with me back in time for a second: A few months ago I was walking through Macy's at Lenox mall and saw a Betsey Robinson brooch that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was a small heart shaped lock brooch with a tiny key hanging off of it. I instantly checked the price but forced myself to put it back down and leave the store due to this brand new thing I have developed called retail discipline. Over the next few days, I couldn't get the brooch out of my mind. I knew that it would look amazing on a wedding garter. I even began to imagine what kind of wedding garter I should design to compliment it. Well, suffice to say, my retail discipline did not hold out and I was back at the Macy's counter just a few days later.....purchasing the irrestible little thing. On the way home, I drove in a mood of energized inspiration, thinking of how the lock and heart brooch would make a perfect symbol for a bride who believed that her fiance was the key to her heart. I went straight home and spent over three hours creating a garter that was made of layered ivory tulle. Simple, plain, by heart-wrenchingly girly. I wanted the body of the garter to be unadorned and simple so that the brooch would really stand out. I then designed a matching ivory toss garter to accompany the keepsake garter. Below are pictures of the final product. I have decided to name it "The Betsey Johnson Wedding Garter" due to the fact that the brooch is an authentic Betsey Johnson peice. I realize that this is not the most creative name in the world.....but I also happen to know that this is one of the most original, unique gartes in the world at the moment, so I figure that this lets me off of the hook a tiny bit. Couture Alabama Wedding Garter Set for La Gartier Bride Allison Wembley

Last week I designed a couture University of Alabama wedding garter set for La Gartier bride Allison Wembley. Allison had seen a couture Georgia Bulldogs wedding garter I designed last year and wanted something custom designed for herself that screamed Alabama pride and elegance. (See pictures below). This garter is made out of a fine black double faced satin ribbon and chantilly lace overlay. At the center of the garter is an Alabama crimson bow. Hanging underneath the bow is a precious Alabama "love" charm. To take this garter from cute to couture, I spent over three days dotting the body of the garter with over sixty swarovski crystal rhinestones and fresh water pearls. I think the final product came out amazing. The reason that I am proud of this garter is because Allison wanted a garter that was not too athletic looking--a garter that had the Alabama theme but that was still elegant and girly....and I think that this garter acheived that look perfectly. Starfish and Feather Inspired Wedding Garter for La Gartier Bride Mi'chel Jarjoura

Last week I designed a beautiful custom garter for La Gartier bride Mi'chel Jarjoura that incorporated two major elements from Mi'chel's wedding: feathers and starfish. (See pictures below). Mi'chel liked both the look of the Fatima garter and the Lori garter from the permanent collection but wanted elements of both for her garter. She decided to place a custom order and combine elements from both the Fatima garter and the Lori garter to create her dream garter. To bring in the starfish theme from her wedding, I designed a custom starfish-based embellishment scheme for the center brooch of her feather flower. I am in LOVE with the final product. Isn't it stunning? I think it says beach in the most elegant, glamorous way possible. Seafoam Green and Alencon Lace Wedding Garter

It is no secret that seafoam green is a color that is trending in the bridal industry right now. I am not always a fan of color-trends, however this is one particular trend that I support whole-heartedly. I absolutely adore seafoam green. I find it to be languid, feminine, adorable and elegant all at the same time. Recently, I designed a gorgeous custom garter that incorporated seafoam green as an accent color. (see picture below) Isn't this garter precious? It is made of a fine champagne double-faced satin ribbon with an exquisite french alencon lace overlay. At the center is a seafoam green double faced satin ribbon bow with a sparkling rhinestone embellishment at the center. I think this garter is very dynamic in the sense that it tows the line between being very formal and traditional while still retaining a sort of playful modernity. Ok, so I officially have a social media obsession: Instagram. I was never very effected by Facebook and certainly not by Twitter. I saw Tumblr come and go with not an ounce of interest. Nor did I care for Google Plus very much. And should I even mention MySpace? A Wedding Garter For Love

This past week was the ever-so-splendid Valentine's Day. A day that is infamous for engagements, roses, and love-making. I have to say, I am all for Valentine's Day. Whoever created it was an advocate for love and since I love love, I probably love this person. (Try saying that ten times fast:) Too bad I will never have a chance to meet him/her. Adding a splash of color to your wedding started as a huge trend in the 1990s. Today, weddings are more colorful than ever. And I love the idea of having a colorful wedding garter underneath the neutral, stark white pallet of a wedding gown.
