Unique Wedding Garter Spotlight: Peacock Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Friday 2nd of December 2011 06:17:21 PM
One of my most unique garters has to be the peacock inspired wedding garter. While you might see other wedding garters out there that somehow incorporate a peacock feather, you don't usually see one with an actual peacock pendant. When I came acroos this peacock brooch out shopping one day (for shoes of all things!) I couldn't say no. I had already seen so many peacock feathered garters like the ones here, and knew I wanted to put my own special spin on the same sort of concept..............and knew right away when I saw it that it was just what I needed. Below is a picture of the final product. The body of the garter is made of an exquisite imported french silk embroidered ribbon and a pea green double faced satin ribbon behind it. Centering this gorgeous wedding garter is the peacock brooch along with one single peacock feather. I love love love it!!! It certainly gets my vote for one of the most unique La Gartier wedding garters!

Keep Calm and Wear A Gorgeous Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Friday 2nd of December 2011 02:39:29 PM
Today I look around my apartment and realize that never ever again will my apartment be cute. It is now a fabric house, centered by a sewing machine, and a tiny cleared off sort of space for my computer. There are spools of ribbon all over, and chunks of jewelry, tiny rhinestones ground in the carpet. It is maddening in a way because I spent so long obsessing over the design of my apartment........down to the very placement of my salt and pepper shakers I am not kidding you.
However, as I look around right now, I realize that the growth of La Gartier will no longer leave room for that tiny bit of satisfaction I received from having a "cute" apartment. And this is a sacrifice that I am prepared to make. Completely and totally. It may not be one I enjoy making, but it is one I make all the same. So, this blog posting is dedicated to a sort of "so long farewell" to a lovely space and a strong, willful "hello, bring it" to the success of La Gartier, no matter how much of a mess it makes.
With that said, check out this darling quote design I found on Risque Boudoir's blog! I should have it blown up and framed!!

By: Sarah Dobson | Friday 25th of November 2011 11:08:04 AM
This week La Gartier was lucky enough to be incorporated into a GORGEOUS fall-inspired photography shoot by Live View Studios. Live View Studios is owned by Brent and Anna Deitrich, a husband and wife photography team that I have had the honor of working with in the past. On top of the fashion and wedding photography that they do, Brent and Anna also do various inspiration shoots such as their most recent Fall Inspiration Shoot. I was excited to find out that a La Gartier garter was used in the shoot, and that in addition, the shoot was choosen by Green Wedding Shoes for a feature! Below are a few of my favorite photos from the shoot, plus the photos of the garter. To see the entire shoot or to learn more about Brent and Anna Deitrich, you can click here for the Live View Studios blog.
Thank you so much Brent and Anna for using one of my garters! It looks just perfect on her leg!

Wedding Garter Photo Love
By: Sarah Dobson | Thursday 17th of November 2011 03:57:50 PM
Over the past few months, I have been keeping a file of some of my favorite wedding garter images from different websites, blogs, and magazines. The file is getting pretty large and some of the images are pretty fabulous, so I think a blog posting all about wedding garter photo love is in order. Which is your favorite?

History of the Wedding Garter Tradition
By: Sarah Dobson | Thursday 17th of November 2011 03:18:49 PM
Throwing garters is considered to be the oldest surviving wedding tradition. Back in Dark Ages it was customary for friends, relatives and guests to accompany the bridal couple to the marriage bed. At first this was to safely see the married couple ensconced in their wedding bed and once established the crowd respectfully left the newly weds to their own company.
The wedding garter toss became a game of sorts. The bridal party would toss the garter at the grooms nose and the person who successfully landed the garter on his nose would be the next to marry.
The custom became rowdier and bawdier until the guests were eager to help the bride out of her wedding clothes. The wedding guests would try to grab the bride's garter for good luck. It is thought to forestall such impropriety, the bride's garter was given to the mob as a distraction. Soon this became an established custom.
Throwing the garter to the groom's men is what remains of the custom. In Northern England the old custom was for male guests to rush the bride at the altar when the ceremony was finished and remove her garter from her leg. In the panic this usually meant the bride was knocked over and trampled on.
Gradually brides made garters easier to detach and finally to avoid threat of injury they tossed their garters away at the end of the ceremony. Garters were imbued with fertility and the bride's garter signified consummation, fulfillment, and progeny and was always fiercely sought after. Untying the bride's garter had a deeply symbolic act. In the past the lucky guest to receive the bride's garter would wear it proudly on his hat, before giving it to the girl of his choice for luck.
Another variation on this custom in the 19th century was for the local youths to race from the church to the bride's house. The first was given the honor of removing the bride's left garter. He would then tie this around his own true love's knee as a guard against unfaithfulness. In the North of England , the custom was for the man to wear the bride's garter in his hat.
Tossing the garter was reintroduced in the early part of the twentieth century. These days, the groom is responsible for removing the garter and tossing it at the eagerly waiting groomsmen at the reception. Much tamer that the early days. Bride would also have a second keepsake garter that they would keep with their wedding dress.

Wedding Garter Inspiration: Vera Wang's Witchcraft Collection
By: Sarah Dobson | Thursday 17th of November 2011 02:55:47 PM
I am crazy about some of the latest Vera Wang gown designs that debuted in New York City last month. The Vera Wang Fall 2012 collection called the Witchcraft collection, is described as “ Light, airy, concoctions of froth….inspired by black and nude undergarments, both mysterious and sexy, frivolous and fun, with transparent wisps of carefully organized tulle.” I am absolutely mad this collection and so visually addicted to a few of these gowns that I am already imagining the garters that should be designed to match. Black is gaining popularity in the wedding industry already, and with the recent trend boudior photography trend, a black Witchcraft garter could be just the right thing.♥
Happy La Gartier everyone and thank you so much to the creative minds behind Vera Wang for delivery such a stunning fall collection. Below are a few of my favorite gowns:)
