Something Blue Bridal Show Recap + Sunny California
By: Sarah Dobson | Sunday 22nd of January 2012 03:25:12 PM
Hello from sunny California everyone!!!!! As I wrote in the previous blog, I am in Southern California this week for the Something Blue bridal show that happened last Thursday in West Hollywood. La Gartier had a great time. Here are just a few of the highlights from the show: The event took place on the rooftop of the Peterson Auto Museum on Wilshire Boulevard, overlooking most of West Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills, making the entire experience feel extremely modern and very glamourous. Skyy Vodka served Blue Martinis the entire night, so believe me, there was more than a little something blue all throughout the crowd. Tasty Clouds Candy Company set up a candy bar with jars and jars of every type of blue candy you can imagine (my favorite being the blue sugared licorice). Love Claudette had a vintage dresser display of some of the loveliest lingerie I have ever seen. Beach Candy, a designer swimsuit company, was also there with a rack of their signature swarovski crystal adorned bathing suits. I met Ashleigh Taylor of Ashleigh Taylor Photography, who was there photographing the event along with Summer of B Bride Studio in Orange County. Meeting the other vendors was most definitely my favorite part of being there, so when the brides attending the event started to come in around seven, I was already very happy with how everything was going. I met over fifty brides and some soon-to-be grooms along with a handful of wedding planners. All in all, the event was a success!! Below is a picture of one of the display's from the show: it was a mannequin that we (Lindsey from Love Claudette and I) dressed in one of Love Claudette's fabulous lingerie sets, along with a La Gartier Garter. Ok, well I am off to the beach! It is sixty degrees here and I want to use every moment I have here before returning to Atlanta tomorrow!

Collegiate Team Wedding Garter: Custom Georgia Bulldogs Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Monday 16th of January 2012 08:59:34 PM
I have gotten SO SO SO many requests for collegiate themed team wedding garters over the past year that a blog posting about them is most certainly in order. Most of the requests I have gotten have been for teams here in the South. You should see the top drawer of my ribbon cabinet!! It is filled with LSU, Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Tennessee, University of Florida and Ole' Miss ribbon. I never thought I would know so much about Southern College Football teams! The most common request is, as you can guess, Georgia Tech and Georgia Bulldogs. I have seen other collegiate wedding garters before, and wanted to make one that was better, prettier and had a tiny bit of sparkle. I started by finding and purchasing a great Georgia Bulldogs ribbon and trimmed it with an exquisite black lace. In the center I hung a tiny "G" Bulldogs charm and used rhinestone embellishments around the entire body of the garter. Below is the final product. It is by far one of the most popular La Gartier Custom Garters ever created and I look forward to branching out to college teams outside of the South. If you are interested in purchasing this garter or one like it, please contact me at info@lagartier.com or use the contact form. Happy La Gartier everyone and Go Dawgs!

Custom Wedding Garter: Aspen Mountian Inspired Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Saturday 14th of January 2012 03:20:20 PM
Happy La Gartier from Colorado everyone! Today I am writing my blog from the cutest little coffee shop in Crested Butte, Colorado. From where I sit right now, I can see the most beautiful snow covered mountains outside the window and vast expansive blue sky that makes me certain I am from the most beautiful state in all of the lower 48 United States! While I live in Atlanta, I am originally from Colorado and let me tell you it has been too long since I have been home. This breath taking mountain scenery has inspired me to write about a wedding garter I designed long ago for a Aspen Colorado lodge-styled wedding. I can't believe I haven't blogged about it before! Originally inspired by celebrity wedding planner Lisa Vorce's Winter Wonderland wedding, this gorgeous grey wedding garter pictured below was designed to reflect everything mountainous rugged, rustic and romantic about a winter mountain wedding. Kim Kallency, the bride who custom ordered it, wanted a bow styled garter, with a grey double faced satin ribbon body and a grey wool for the bow. You see, her hubby-to-be was to be wearing a grey tux for the wedding and she wanted at least one of her accessories to match his all grey get-up. Other than these two requests from Kim, I had the freedom to create pretty much whatever I thought would match her wedding style (which I LOVED). Below is the final product that Kim wore down the aisle! I decided to put two gorgeous white-spotted feathers and three sparkling grey rhinestones in the center of the garter. I think it is the most perfect garter if you are having a lodge inspired, mountain wedding be it in the fall, summer, spring or winter!! Below are two pictures of--a front view and a side view along with some pictures from Lisa Vorce's Aspen Splendor Inspired Wedding. If you are interested in placing a custom order or purchasing a garter like this, feel free to email me at info@lagartier.com or use the contact form. Isn't it precious?

Personalized Wedding Garter: Juicy Couture Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Saturday 14th of January 2012 03:02:07 PM
Ok, I will be the first to admit that as a 28-going-on-29 year old young woman, I am sometimes embarrased by my continued adolescent obsession with Juicy Couture. Aren't I supposed to grow out of it? Or atleast admire it from a distance instead of still sporting my Juicy engagement ring keychain year after year? Well, be it mature or not, I am a Juicy devotee which is why I couldn't resist custom designing a Juicy Couture inspired wedding garter. I found a heart pendant at a local jewelry store that reminded me so much of the Juicy Couture branding that started it all. I didn't even have a bride who requested this design! I simply wanted to make it. So, low and behold, below is a picture of the La Gartier Custom Juicy Couture Wedding Garter, along with some photos from the Juicy website to illuminate how well they go together. If you are a bride who also loves Juicy Couture, or perhaps just the heart/bow design of this garter, feel free to contact me at info@lagartier.com in order to purchase it. It is not spoken for yet!

A Word of Advice If You Are Considering Buying A Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Friday 13th of January 2012 08:47:44 PM
IF you are reading this, then you are on the La Gartier website.........which means that you are probably considering purchasing a wedding garter for your big day. So please let me take a moment to warn you against one thing: I have been noticing lately that there is this one certian type of wedding garter design surfacing on different wedding accessories websites, Etsy, etc that, while very pretty, shouldn't be considered as a viable option. I know this may sound like a bold or arrogant statement so just bear with me. You see, these new wedding garters that I am seeing don't have any elastic in them!! This means that they will not stay on your leg for more than three or four, maybe five steps. I think that a large part of their appeal is that they sit very flush against the leg. They remind me of a very minimal, tiny sort of version of the garter. Below, I have posted two pictures of this exact type of garter. They are pretty but beware! A garter needs elastic to hug the leg and stay up while you are walking. These garters below are essentially like taking a pretty piece of ribbon, wrapping it around your thigh and tying a knot in the back. So please, if you are considering purchasing a garter for you wedding day, steer clear of this "simple ribbon, elastic-free" sort of garter. Ok, rant over.

Alice in Wonderland Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Friday 30th of December 2011 09:37:44 PM
Every once and awhile, I will simply make a garter for the fun of it. This was the case for the Alice in Wonderland garter, inspired by all of the Alice In Wonderland inspired weddings I have come across on wedding blogs and inside magazines lately.
I have always loved the Alice In Wonderland story and movie. Visually dynamic, eclectic and dreamy are all words I would use to describe Alice In Wonderland. These are the words I used as my guide while creating the Alice garter. Below is a picture of the Alice garter and the following is how I designed the garter and why: The bright "Alice" blue velvet ribbon that runs across the middle represents, well, Alice and her famous blue dress. The rhinestone lock and hanging key pendant represent the lock and key motif seen througout the story (also slightly reminiscent of the white rabbit's hanging pocket watch chain) and the red cards around the body of the garter represent.......you guessed it..........the red queen. Although you can't see it in the photo below, there is a single rockinghorse charm on the backside, along with a tiny kitten charm.
If you are having an Alice In Wonderland themed wedding, this garter would make the most unique, precious detail to your wedding day. I love it so much actually, it will be hard to sell it. Oh well, guess I will have to go through the completely fun, challenging and creative process of designing another one!!
Below is the La Gartier Alice In Wonderland Wedding Garter, along with one of my favorite Alice Inspired Weddings.

La Gartier Custom Garters now at Kelly's Closet Atlanta
By: Sarah Dobson | Thursday 29th of December 2011 05:47:47 PM
La Gartier is happy to be one of Kelly's Closet's newest vendors!! Kelly's Closet is one of Atlanta's most treasured bridal boutiques, tucked in the center of historic Candler Park, just down the road from the infamous Little Five Points neighborhood. Kelly's Closet is a truly unique bridal boutique, with bridal gown designers from all over the world. The owner, Kelly, doesn't like to carry things that you may find elsewhere in Atlanta, so the selection you find in her store is very exclusive. In the "closet" you will tend to find things that have a vintage style or timeless quality over something flashy or trendy. Very fashion forward in her buying, Kelly likes to introduce her brides to alternatives to "that same dress that is everywhere". La Gartier is very proud to be one of the newest designers within Kelly's Closet and looks forward to a great 2012 with both Kelly, the owner and Meredith the shop manager!!
To read more about Kelly's Closet, you can visit her website here. And if you live in the Atlanta area, you can now buy a La Gartier garter a either Kelly's Closet, Sweet Elegance Bridal, Wedding Angels and Sunny's Hair and Wigs!

"I believe that personal style is all about creative expression. Women are creative beings, and we LOVE to communicate. That is where the passion for clothes comes from: a desire, no a need, to communicate who we are to the world. I love to facilitate this process for women. Again, style is not a size or an age, it is an energy, a confidence, a playfulness, a willingness to explore a little. We all had it as young girls, but somewhere along the way we forget to have fun with our bodies. Size and age become the ruling factors for how we perceive ourselves. I'm all about breaking this down"

La Gartier, Stolen
By: Sarah Dobson | Wednesday 28th of December 2011 03:42:24 PM
As I was looking around one of Seattle's top wedding blogs, Lucky In Love, last night I found a wedding garter company that plagiarized the written descriptio of La Gartier. It is an Etsy shop called The Little White Dress and let me tell you, you might as well call them "Little White Hot Anger" as far as I am concerned. I really really REALLY don't appreciate people copying me, whether it be my garter designs or some text on my website.
I remember when La Gartier first began, and I sat down with a pencil and a piece of paper to write a short sentence or two that was supposed to capture what my company really was. It was so hard. It took me over an hour, full of all those little smudgy erase marks that remind you of sixth grade math class and graphite galore. I finally got it though. Something I thought clearly communicated the message of my company, had rhythm, and sparkled just a little.
So you can imagine my dismay at finding the exact sentences from the cyber mouth of a different wedding garter company. All I can say is, if you aren't creative enough to sit down and write your own company's description, you probably aren't creative enough (or disciplined or diligent, etc) enough to create good, quality, designer wedding garters.
Ok, rant over. Below is a screen shot of the La Gartier company description (written by ME thank you very much) and below is a screenshot of the plagiarized Little White Dress text that kept me up all night. The Little White Dress, if you are reading this right now I only have one thing to say to you: yeah I did it.

Christmas Holiday Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Monday 26th of December 2011 04:31:51 PM
Eventhough it is the day after Christmas, I thought that the Christmas wedding garter would be appropriate to write about. It was made for La Gartier bride Kimberly Challina for her Dec. 24th, Christmas Eve wedding right here in Atlanta, Georgia. Because of the special date, Kimberly decided to have an angel motif throughout her wedding and was delighted to find that I had a rhinestone Angel pendant in my jewelry collection. To keep with the spirit of the season, we used a dark green velvet ribbon across the body and two tiny red bows on either side of the angel. Below is Kimberly's garter. Merry La Gartier everyone! And congratulations Kimberly!!!

Vintage Wedding Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Saturday 24th of December 2011 06:58:31 PM
So! I am so excited to share with you one of my favorite new garter designs from the upcoming collection. I love this garter so much that I am dedicating an entire blog posting to it! Below is the "Virginia" garter, made out of an exquisite ivory double faced satin ribbon and ivory antique lace. Centering the garter is a breath-taking locket that screams vintage weddings. And yes, the garter really opens! Just recently a bride told me that she put a picture of her late grandmother inside the locket so that she could be close on her big day, which I thought was a remarkable.
