Blue Silk and Floral Custom Wedding Garter for La Gartier Bride Valesca Bendigo

About five months ago, I was contacted by a bride named Valesca Bendigo that wanted a custom garter made but only had fifteen days left before her wedding to do so. She was getting married on December 29th in Miami, Florida and I was determined to make her something gorgeous eventhough the timing was difficult. Valesca loved the "Carrie" garter from the Custom Gallery but wanted to change a few things. In the end, she and I ended up going with a light blue dupioni silk design with a to-die-for white floral embellishment detail and Vera Wang trim. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to recieve an email from Valesca with real wedding photos of her garter along with a few gorgeous photos of herself from the wedding. Below are just a few of the photos. Blue Lace Wedding Garter

Last week, I designed a custom garter for Diane Cheatham of Diane's Formal Affair in Jasper, Alabama. Diane wanted at least one garter in her store that was extremely couture and rare. Since I knew that she liked garters that were blue, I went to my favorite fabric store and looked through their selection of extremely high-end blue emboidered lace trims. I saw quite a few that I liked, but there was one particular blue sequin embroidred blue lace ribbon that stuck out far beyond the others. (See pictures below). I bought it immediately and headed to my studio to see what I could make of it. Below are pictures of the final product. The inside of this garter is a gorgeous ivory double faced satin ribbon. At the center, is a sparkling "daffodil" rhinestone brooch. However, it is undeniable that the best feature of this garter is the beauty of the blue embroidered lace ribbon by itself. The only down side about this garter is that my fabric store only has about thirteen yards of this gorgeous blue ribbon left. Once they are out, I doubt they will be able to order more.....which I suppose makes this garter even more special due to its rarity. I think this garter would make a phenomenal "something blue" for a bride who wants a garter that is couture, elegant and one-of-a-kind. Blue Wedding Garters

The sky, the sea, a robin's egg, the cookie monster. What do all of these things have in common? They are all blue!!! Blue is my second favorite color which brings me to the point of tonight's blog post: blue wedding garters. Blue is by far the most popular color for a bride to have on her garter, due to the something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue tradition. I think the reason that the wedding garter ends up being the go-to place to put the "something blue" is because if the bride's wedding doesn't incorporate the color blue in anyway, she can put the blue on her garter and hide it from sight.....avoiding any color-clash problems that might occur. Since blue is such a popular color to incorporate into the wedding garter, I made sure to incorporate plenty of blue wedding garters into the collection. Custom Wedding Garter: Peacock Wedding Garter

Peacock feathers have always amazed me, with the vibrancy of the greens and the blues they show off (literally) and the complexity of their patterns. It makes sense that so many brides today are incorporating peacock feather elements into their wedding day. Not a week goes by recently that I don't see a new peacock inspired wedding on the top weddings blogs or paging through some of the most popular bridal publications. So about five months ago, I broke out the ribbon and went shopping for a peacock feather to create a peacock inspired wedding garter. Below are pictures of the final product plus a few real wedding peacock pics. The body is made of a green double faced satin ribbon, with a french imported floral embroidered ribbon on top. In the center is a fabulous peacock brooch I found online, with the most important element behind it: a peacock feather straight from the tail of one very cocky, flashy, show-off male peacock somewhere in the world. My darling bird, you have succeeded in getting all of our attention♥♥♥♥

Alice in Wonderland Wedding Garter

Every once and awhile, I will simply make a garter for the fun of it. This was the case for the Alice in Wonderland garter, inspired by all of the Alice In Wonderland inspired weddings I have come across on wedding blogs and inside magazines lately.

I have always loved the Alice In Wonderland story and movie. Visually dynamic, eclectic and dreamy are all words I would use to describe Alice In Wonderland. These are the words I used as my guide while creating the Alice garter. Below is a picture of the Alice garter and the following is how I designed the garter and why: The bright "Alice" blue velvet ribbon that runs across the middle represents, well, Alice and her famous blue dress. The rhinestone lock and hanging key pendant represent the lock and key motif seen througout the story (also slightly reminiscent of the white rabbit's hanging pocket watch chain) and the red cards around the body of the garter represent.......you guessed it..........the red queen. Although you can't see it in the photo below, there is a single rockinghorse charm on the backside, along with a tiny kitten charm. 

If you are having an Alice In Wonderland themed wedding, this garter would make the most unique, precious detail to your wedding day. I love it so much actually, it will be hard to sell it. Oh well, guess I will have to go through the completely fun, challenging and creative process of designing another one!!

Winter Wedding Garter + Inspiration

I found this inspiration board on Etsy a few days ago, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the December garter was included with it. If you are a winter bride, or just need a something blue, this garter is perfect. It is made of an ice blue dupioni silk ribbon, polka-dotted english netting, white double faced satin ribbon bow, and hanging snowflake pendant. Ice-queen-tastic. Something Blue Wedding Garters

We are all familiar with the saying "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue"—the age-old wedding tradition that suggests the bride has at least one of these things with her on her wedding day. Bridal garters are an excellent way to incorporate one of these "something's" whether it be a vintage brooch, a tiny blue pearl, or your best friend's favorite pendant.

I recently had the pleasure of working with bride Elizabeth Crew, who wanted her "something blue" to be a blue garter. Elizabeth is not only a stunning and elegant person herself, but also has stunning and elegant taste, so designing her garter was a delight! She wanted something sparkly as her gown had a distinct girly flare about it, so we set to work on finding the crystal rhinestone pieces to sew onto her garter. The final product was simply gorgeous and has since inspired so many other La Gartier designs. Elizabeth it was so much fun working with you and your blue wedding garter is undoubtedly a very special "something blue."
