Brandon Gregory of Brandon Gregory Photography recently took some headshots of myself and a few of my friends at a local boutique called Fab'rik here in Atlanta. I was in desperate need of some head shots for a magazine called Crave that is going to be featuring La Gartier in their upcoming edition. Below are a few of the photos he took. He is so talented! La Gartier an Official TWIPS member!
By: Sarah Dobson | Tuesday 4th of October 2011 06:53:32 PM
Yay! More good news in the world of La Gartier! I received an email this morning from the TWIPS team, informing me that La Gartier is now an official TWIPS member. What does this mean you ask? Well, TWIPS is more or less a community of wedding garter tweeters. Tweet as in Twitter. You know that bird thing? The definition of TWIPS is 'Twitter Wedding Inspirational Pals." Basically a Twitter club of wedding professionals that support and promote one another's careers within the wedding industry......through.......guess what..........twitter. (I don't think I can write the word Twitter one more time).
With that said, here is La Gartier's official TWIPS badge!! I look forward to promoting and supporting all of my fellow wedding professionals within the TWIPS community!

To Toss or Not to Toss? Wedding Garter Dilemma.
By: Sarah Dobson | Tuesday 4th of October 2011 06:26:11 PM
Being a wedding garter designer, I hear and read a lot about why women decide to stay away from the wedding garter toss segment of their reception. It is tacky they say. Most report an almost definite NO to the whole thing: having their entire wedding party watch the groom search up her gown, scrambling for one of her wedding garments, tossing it to his best male friends? A total Neanderthal practice they say.
Which I can totally understand. To be completely honest, I don't think I would do the whole thing either. Especially if there were teeth involved. Eeekk. However, as La Gartier has grown I have learned that many of today's brides are buying garters not because they want to do the whole garter toss thing or not. They are buying them just to have them. That is, more and more often brides are buying garters just to have a memorable keepsake that they well cherish always, have yet another fabulous accessory, or pass on to their daughters. My garters are meant to be worn and cherished.....and also tossed if the bride so desires (I always offer simple toss garters at a minimal price to go along with the keepsake).
When I started designing wedding garters years ago the actual wedding garter tradition--the toss part---never even crossed my mind. I suppose I am lucky because I am finding that it isn't crossing my brides' minds either.
To toss or not to toss? Doesn't matter when you have a La Gartier garter.
I think I just came up with LG's first slogan:)))

New La Gartier Location: Wedding Angels
By: Sarah Dobson | Monday 3rd of October 2011 07:23:40 PM
La Gartier is excited to be one of Wedding Angels Boutique's newest vendors. Wedding Angels is a top-of-the-line wedding boutique located in Roswell, Georgia. Arranged in an intimate boutique setting, Wedding Angels carries a gorgeous selection of wedding gowns for every type of bride-- whether she is one a budget or not. Family owned and operated, Wedding Angels has been in business for twelve years and is nestled in the charming, historic district of Roswell. I couldn't believe the setting myself as I drove up to the boutique: old mills, old cottages turned into quaint gas stations, porch swings, and single light intersections. I felt like I had gone back in time! Wedding Angels itself is located in a historic building and is filled with all of the southern charm you would expect a great southern bridal boutique to have. La Gartier is so excited to be among one of Wedding Angel's array of luxury wedding accessories. To learn more about Wedding Angels, you can visit their website at www.weddingangels.com. Below is a picture of the front of the boutique, along with a picture of the staff at Wedding Angels.
Be sure to ask for Jacquie, Catherine, or Karin if you stop in!

New La Gartier Location: Sweet Elegance Bridal!
By: Sarah Dobson | Monday 26th of September 2011 10:30:41 PM
La Gartier is happy to be one of Sweet Elegance Bridal's newest vendors!! Sweet Elegance Bridal is located in Decatur, Georgia and is owned by a mother daughter team. Mother Aimee and daughter Kristine (who look so much alike it is uncanny) began Sweet Elegance Bridal because they wanted to create a boutique that would give customers a chance to experience good customer service as well as get a great deal on their dream bridal gown. They are one of the oldest, most established wedding boutiques here in Georgia and are well know for doing just what they set out to do: give a bride excellent, above average customer service. On the Sweet Elegance website, Kristine and Aimee describe themselves as a small boutique with a lot of flare but I think they are being modest. That is, Sweet Elegance is a spacious, glamorous boutique in my eyes....with two full rooms of gowns and to-die-for accessories. You know, the ones you can't walk past without wanting to pick up? Well, I am happy to announce that La Gartier Garters are now apart of their irrisistable accessory collection and I for one couldn't be more excited about it! To learn more about Sweet Elegance bridal, you can visit their boutique website here: www.sweetelegancebridal.com.
Below are Kristine and Aimee, the mother daughter team behind Sweet Elegance Bridal. I don't know if I have ever seen a resemblance between a mother and daughter so striking!!!

Blue Bridal Boutique in Denver
By: Sarah Dobson | Thursday 22nd of September 2011 12:04:44 PM
La Gartier is happy to be one of Blue Bridal Boutique's newest vendors. Blue Bridal is located in Denver, Colorado on the infamous 16th street mall. This is a very special partnership for me as Denver is my home city and the shops along 16th Street mall are ones I know well. Blue Bridal is a chic, contemporary boutique, located in the heart of downtown Denver. Locally owned and operated, Blue Bridal offers exquisite designer gowns, at surprisingly delightful prices. Blue carries a wide variety of designers, including (but not limited to) Lazaro, Rivini, La Sposa, Pronovias, Jenny Yoo, Theia, and Simone Carvalli just to name a few. Most of the designers are exclusive to their boutique in Colorado, which means you won’t see the same gowns anywhere else. Blue also carries a wide array of gorgeous accessories that are either blue in color or have an accent of blue......... perfect to match their name and perfect for a "something blue."
If you are in the Colorado metro area, please visit the at 500 16th Street, Suite 222, Denver, Colorado 80202. You can visit their website by clicking here.

Custom Garter: Andrea Antunes and the Andrea Garter
By: Sarah Dobson | Friday 16th of September 2011 06:53:27 AM
I recently designed a garter for La Gartier bride Andrea Antunes, who is getting ready to tie the knot with her soon-to-be hubby in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Andrea wanted to create a garter that in some way honored her late grandmother, and decided to incorporate a vintage cameo brooch in order to do so. We ended up co-shopping in order to find it. That is, I did some shopping locally for antique brooch cameos, while Andrea looked around on the internet. After a bit of a search, Andrea sent me the link to an undeniably stunning peach and ivory cameo trimmed with rhinestones in an antique jewelry shop on Etsy (Gotta love Etsy). I ordered it and, while waiting for it to arrive, set to work designing the body of the garter. Andrea wanted the body to match her sash, which, based on the picture she sent me, is just stunning with pearls and rhinestones galore. To add the final touch, Andrea decided to run a blue ribbon along the inside of her garter and asked me to hand embroider her wedding date onto it. I am new at embroidery but set to work "sew writing" the date 11-26-11 onto a carefully selected baby blue ribbon. The end result is absolutely fabulous. I say "is" because I have it right here in my studio, waiting to get packed up and shipped to Andrea. I can't take my eyes off of it. There are two different sizes of pearls all the way around the body of the garter, with over thirty tiny rhinestones dotted throughout. The center cameo, which couldn't arrive in the mail fast enough, is just perfect in size and design. Lastly, the baby blue hand embroidered ribbon along the inside is a detail I am so happy Andrea suggested. It is a tiny detail that carries a big punch if you ask me. Below is Andrea's garter, along with a picture of Andrea herself. Congratulations Andrea! It was so fun to create your garter!

And the Winner of the "Kim" Garter is...................
By: Sarah Dobson | Saturday 10th of September 2011 04:09:33 PM
This week I partnered with Becky of the delightfully pretty wedding blog Bow Ties and Bliss for a give away that offered one lucky bride the chance to win either the Kim garter, the Avery garter, or the Lauryn garter.
Yesterday, the winner was announced and guess what? It was a bride named Kim who had picked the "Kim" garter as her favorite. Can anyone say meant-to-be?
Kim wrote this underneath the posting: “My choice would be the Kim. I’m not being biased because my name is Kim either. It’s perfect for me because my dress is ivory and it has an almost nautical feel. My wedding is going to be on a yacht so the nautical feel is definitely something I’m going for.”
Congratulations Kim! Perhaps we can put something a bit nautical on your garter to match your theme?

Wedding Garter vs. Garter Belt
By: Sarah Dobson | Saturday 10th of September 2011 03:41:59 PM
Since La Gartier began, I have noticed that the two words "wedding garter" and "garter belt" are often confused or used in place of one another, so today's blog posting is all about clearing up the confusion. That is, a "garter" and a "garter belt" are two completely different things.....
A garter, wedding garter, bridal garter, any and all of the above is what I make. It is what you see here on the website. It is a pretty little band that goes around your leg about five inches above the knee for a bride to keep, let her hubby toss, cherish for years to come, pass down to her daughter, etc.
Now a garter belt is something different altogether and actually has nothing to do with weddings at all. Well, perhaps some brides wear them under their wedding dresses but, um, I don't need to know all those details, do you? A garter belt is that thing you see in fancy lingerie sets from Victoria's Secret magazines that goes around a woman's waist and holds up stockings or pantyhose or whatever. (Does anyone even wear pantyhose anymore?) You know: the thing that has dangley, adjustable bra strappy little things with clips on the end?
Just to be a bit more clear I have posted pictures below. The top is a garter, wedding garter, bridal garter, BEAUTIFUL LA GARTIER WEDDING GARTER (he he) while the second is a garter belt.
But I bet I am going to hear "Nice Garter Belts" for years to come. Oh well, can't win them all.
